The afternoon of 16th May 1943 marked a historic war time event steeped in heroism. This 636 piece jigsaw puzzle commemorates the 70th anniversary of The Dambusters.Depicting an iconic Lancaster Bomber, the puzzle reminds us of a mission led by Guy Gibson and the men of 617 Squadron. They had to learn extraordinary flying skills for Operation Chastise, flying at a low level at night deemed difficult for even the most experienced pilots. However, using simple hand-held wooden triangles with dowel markers, it took five attempts for the 19 Lancasters, each with one bomb, to breach the Moehne Dam and subsequently the Eder Dam. Eight of the Lancasters that set out that day did not return and 53 men lost their lives. However 33 surviving Dambusters were awarded honours and Guy Gibson received the countrys highest award for valour the Victoria Cross. The Dambusters jigsaw puzzle is the perfect memorial to all of these brave men and a coveted souvenir for those who wish to remember their bravery.
