Pompeii Pugio Dagger

PHOTO MISSING

The Pugio was a soldier's dagger that was used as a sidearm by Roman Legionaries and Auxiliaries at the time of the Roman Conquest of Britain. It seems likely that is was designed predominantly as a thrusting weapon in much the same way as the larger 'Gladius' sword. It is understood that Pugio daggers were used in the assassination of Julius Caesar. This well made replica was most likely used by an officer or Centurion on account of the ornate brass decoration. It is hand forged from steel and features a leather lined sheath and sandwiched horn and steel hilt that is often found on surviving pieces.Key Features:The Pompeii Pugio Dagger has a blunt blade and is for display onlyHand forged from SteelLeather lined sheath
