Norman Belt
The Normans (Northmen) were descended from the Viking conquerors of Northern France and gave the name Normandy to this newly acquired territory. The Duchy of Normandy, which they formed by treaty with the French crown, was one of the great fiefs of medieval France. The Normans were a war-like people and in 1066 William, Duke of Normandy invaded England and defeated the Anglo Saxons at the Battle of Hastings.The Norman Belt is based on an authentic period design and features enamelled brass fittings bearing heraldic beasts. The Lion and the Griffin are both shown on the Bayeaux Tapestry and are associated with strength and courage.
