Ladies Of The Court - Cushion Cover
Ladies of the Arthurian Court - An elaborate tapestry cushion woven in a wool blend, giving a heavy hard wearing textured weave. Two main factors determined a woman's position in medieval society & her prospects: her rank - whether she was of noble decent: bourgeois or peasant & her marital status, - whether she was a maiden, a married woman or widow. Aristocratic women had two choices: wedlock - most women could be expected to be married by the age of 14 - or the nunnery. Both required dowries & involved land & wealth transactions. The noble's wife & the nun were both important within their own environment. The noble lady ran domestic household affairs, staff & provisions. She was also expected to manage estates, & even defend them if her husband was absent. Black Agnes, Countess of March defended Dunbar Castle against King Edward III in 1338.Please Note: The cushion Filler is not included.
